The Sensex extended further gains hitting a new high of 18,476.08 on relentless buying seen across the board. Auto, banking, capital goods, realty and metal space drove the Sensex to settle above 18,400 level.
At the close, the Sensex soared 651.56 points or 3.66% at 18,474.96 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty higher by 199.25 points or 3.74% at 5,532 with 42 components gaining.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (8.96%), Jaiprakash Associates (7.42%), Maruti Suzuki India (6.90%), NTPC (6.09%) and L&T (6.02%).
Today there were no losers at the BSE 30 share index.
